On Sunday May 5th I had the pleasure of attending the Aunt Jackie’s – Curls, Coils and Cocktails event. For you beauties that aren’t too familiar with Aunt Jackie’s they are a hair care brand with a focus on curls and coils. One of my favorite things about this brand is that their products are: sulfate-free and paraben-free. They use eco-friendly preservatives, and they don’t contain any mineral oil, or petroleum.
The event was held at the beautiful Huetiful salon located at 3428 S King Dr, Chicago IL. There was a large display of the different Aunt Jackie’s products and plenty food and of course cocktails.
The team from Aunt Jackie’s gave each guest free samples with a hair pick and they also had give-aways where guests could win t-shirts and gift boxes that contained one of the Aunt Jackie’s collections.
There was a very detailed demo of a wash and go done by one of the stylist at Huetiful (also by the name of Jackie).
The wash and go started with Aunt Jackie’s Oh So Clean shampoo.
This shampoo smells AMAZING!!! What I found extremely interesting was the fact that the models hair began to lather up in what seemed to be the first wash. Typically when washing my own hair, my shampoo doesn’t really lather up until the second or third wash.
Next the stylist reached for Aunt Jackie’s In Control moisturizing and softening conditioner.
Once again this gets 10/10 for the scent, and with two of it’s main ingredients being shea butter and olive oil it is extremely nourishing.
After applying the conditioner the stylist had the model sit under the hood for about 5-7 minutes for a quick steam treatment. Next she thoroughly rinsed the product and applied Aunt Jackie’s Quench! leave-in conditioner.
This leave-in has no oils, petrolatum, or parabens which is extremely good for your hair.To define the curls the stylist used Aunt Jackie’s Curl La La defining curl custard.
I learned that the key to an awesome wash and go is defining the hair while it is still wet…. NOT DAMP but wet. Now don’t apply it while your hair is dripping wet, but do apply your styling product while your hair still has a good amount of moisture.
As you can see she had a spray bottle with water on standby for any section that needed more moisture.Another awesome tip to perfect your wash and go was to limit the amount of product you’re applying. Raise your hand if you are guilty of side eye-ing the ‘dime sized’ recommendations and applying dollops of product your hair….. *shamefully raises hand* Yup we all do it… but the stylist, as well as the ladies from the Aunt Jackie team, said a little goes along way. Check out the amount she used per section.
After shingling and defining her curls, the model went under the hood one last time. After her time was up we were blown away by how defined her curls were, and by how much body and movement she still had. We did get a chance to touch her curls and once again Aunt Jackie did not disappoint. Her curls were super soft and the Curl La La does NOT leave that dreaded crunch. This has got to be one of my favorite brag points about Aunt Jackie’s styling products, even their flaxseed line gives you definition without the crunch.
Another interesting fact was that the stylist was surprised that there was no film or stickiness left on her hands after styling. I felt her hands and you wouldn’t believe she had just got done finger-combing someone’s hair with styling products.
At the end of it all I learned so much more about the products and how to use them. I was already a fan of Aunt Jackie’s Flaxseed Recipes line and after seeing the live demo for the Curls and Coils line, I’m even more of a fan! As you can see the model’s curls were GORGEOUS! I’d definitely recommend these products and encourage you beauties to look out for any events they may be hosting in a city near you!
