2015 was the year that I wore my first wig…(wow just writing that gets me excited all over again). To be honest I was stuck with my hair and I wanted try different styles but I didn’t want to damage my hair. Although I was EXTREMELY nervous eventually I decided to give wigs a try.
After rocking my wig in public and receiving loads of compliments, I felt confident enough to try it again and again….. and again. If we’re being honest I was purchasing wigs almost every month. Straight wigs, curly wigs, synthetic wigs, human hair wigs, you name it i bought it.

Issa Wig!
I started wearing wigs as a protective style late 2015 and mainly wore them during the cooler months. By summer of 2016 I was allowing my hair to breath more frequently, rocking mainly twist outs, braid outs and wash-n-go’s. By Fall of 2016 I was back to my wigs. I’m always researching and trying to find more ways to grow and maintain my natural hair and I started reading up on the importance of trimming. Because I hadn’t trimmed in a while I decided to straighten and trim January of 2017. HUNNY…. when I tell you the growth was amazing… it was AH-MAZING! For the first time as a natural I had reached Bra-Strap Length and I was FEELING myself.

She’s a wig! – I forgot how pretty she is…the wig that is!
I have to credit my wigs! Don’t get me wrong, I had been taking care of my hair and although I was seeing growth I had never seen my hair flourish the way it did in that short period of time. I started my transition, winter of 2012 and after being addicted to heat, weaves and improper hair care, my hair never really got a chance to shine until I learned proper hair care, and started protective styling.

Now a days I don’t really wear wigs as much as I used to, mainly because with all this hair growth and my lack of cornrow/braiding skills, its a struggle to get my wigs to lay flat, and putting it on become more of a chore than a convenience. Even though I don’t wear them as often I still strongly encourage protective styling whether its wigs or braids or any other type of protection, trust me it helps and it will boost your hair growth!
